The Role of Touch Surfaces and Its Impact on Infections
Copper has been known for centuries to have a profound
antimicrobial activity, but how can we apply this amazing and
natural property of copper to our modern healthcare system?
If we can design into our healthcare facilities, strategies that
do not rely on human intention or human thought, we are going to
make that environment safer. One of those strategies is
addressing the role of antimicrobial 'touch surfaces' to eliminate
bacteria that cause infections. Copper is needed where people
are commonly interacting and repeatedly touching the same
surfaces. Providing a sanitized surface will help reduce the
spread of bacteria and thus provide a safer environment.

significant part of that solution." - Dr. Harold T. Michels,
